The O’Connor Golf Course, located near Amendoeira in the Algarve region of Portugal, is an 18-hole course designed by Christy O’Connor in 2008. As a perfect complement to the Faldo Course, it makes good use of the lush valley soil, contrasting with the arid hillside, to offer a challenging golfing experience demanding precise play.
The front nine of the course bring water hazards into play frequently, including a memorable third hole with a Moorish relic on an island in an adjacent lake. The seventh, eighth, and ninth holes require focused attention to navigate additional water hazards. As the course stretches into the back nine, players continue to be tested by large bodies of water and winding watercourses all the way up to the final hole. The 18th hole calls for pinpoint accuracy in driving to set up an approach shot to a two-tier green built into the hillside.
Besides the challenging course, O’Connor also features an extensive range of facilities, including a driving range, a putting green, a chipping green and bunker area, a pro-shop, and a restaurant and bar for post-round refreshments. Golf buggies and club sets are available for those who need them.
The O’Connor Course sees its busiest times in September, while February tends to be quieter. Additionally, a substantial percentage of O’Connor golfers also play at other local courses such as Faldo in Amendoeira, Old Course and Victoria in Vilamoura, Millennium in Vilamoura, and Pinhal in Vilamoura. The O’Connor Golf Course is part of the Amendoeira group.
