Quinta do Morgado, once a 1600 HA farm, is where the resort of Vilamoura took its roots. The founder, Mr. Arthur Cupertino de Miranda, envisioned a marina-centric resort around this land. This idea came to life between the late 60s and early 70s. By 1971, excavations for the Vilamoura Marina had begun and by 1974, it welcomed its first sailboat. As the Marina expanded, so did Vilamoura, ultimately becoming more than just a marina, transforming into a significant center for tourism and private accommodation.
Vilamoura now offers a plethora of internationally recognized recreational infrastructure including 5 golf courses, an International College, tennis courts, fitness areas, a sailing club, and conference rooms with thousands of capacity.
