Portugal is again awarded by the World Travel Awards

Portugal was enshrined in the category of best European destination for the categories of Best Destination Golf & Beach on Europe Gala Europe Winners 2012:

• 2012 Europe's Leading Beach Destination - Portugal has won the category of beach destination, competing with European destinations in Cannes, France; Corfu, Greece; Costa de la Luz, Spain; Costa Smeralda in Sadenha, Italy; Island Formentera, Ibiza Island Marbella, Spain; Oludeniz in Turkey; Panormas in Mykonos, Greece; and Plage Port Grimaud in France
• 2012 Europe's Leading Golf Destination - Portugal has won the category of golf destination, competing with England, France, Germany, Ireland, Scotland and Spain.

These awards, the Algarve was the big winner, winning 7 awards in 8 possible. The award categories were:

• Best Boutique European resort - Hotel Vila Joya
• Melhor Villa Resort - Douradas Dunas Beach Club & Martilhal Beach Resort
• Best Conference Hotel - Ria Park Hotel
• Best Family Resort - Sheraton Algarve Hotel & Pine Cliffs Resort
• Best Golf Resort - Le Meridien Penina
• Best Hotel - Hilton Vilamoura
• Best New Luxury Resort - Conrad Algarve, Quinta do Lago

in 2008, Portugal had already been consecrated by the award:
